How to use GymTempo
Create a program, build routines, start a workout, log sets, and review history. Step by step.
This is the full loop: design your program, log your workout, and look back at your progress.
Not sure what “program” or “routine” mean? Read our Programs and routines guide first.
Before you start
- Go to go.gymtempo.app and sign in with Google or a magic link.
- If you are on an iPhone, we recommend installing our native App Store app or adding the web app to your home screen.
1. Create a program
Tap New Program on the home screen, type a name, and save.
Shortcut: Open Templates, find a plan like Push/Pull/Legs, and tap Use this program to copy those routines to your library. You can customize them later.
2. Add routines
Open your new program, tap New Routine, and name your training days (like “Push”, “Legs”, or “Workout A”).
You can add as many routines as you need and drag them to reorder. GymTempo does not put your routines on a calendar. You decide which day to run them.
3. Build the routine
Tap any routine in your program to edit its exercises:
- Tap Pick your first exercise and search the library. You can filter by muscles or equipment.
- Choose a Track mode for each exercise, like weight × reps, reps only, or time.
- Add your planned sets. You can mark a set as a Warmup to make it skip the rest timer.
- Set a rest duration if you want a timer to start automatically after a set.
- Tap Save routine when you are done.
You can return and edit your exercises, sets, or order anytime.
4. Start a workout
When you are ready to train, open your routine and tap Start.
This opens the active workout screen. If you already have a session running, you will need to finish or discard it first.
5. Track your sets
Log your weights and repetitions as you lift:
- Table view: Tap a number field, type your weight or reps, and tap Done.
- Stepper view: Tap + and − buttons to log sets without opening your keyboard. Switch to this under Settings → Workout view. Read our Stepper workout view guide to learn more.
The rest timer starts automatically after each normal set. You can skip it, add time, or change the duration on the fly.
If you need to switch an exercise mid-workout, tap the menu button next to its name and select swap. Your logged sets will carry over.
6. Finish and review
When you are done training, tap Finish at the top of the screen. You can add optional workout notes here.
Your session is saved immediately to your History tab. To view your progress on a specific lift over time, open a past workout, tap the exercise name, and switch to History. Read our exercise history guide to learn more.
Open go.gymtempo.app to build your first program and start training.
